What is the date today?
Quelle est la date d'aujourd'hui?

The question above can be answered in two ways:

1) Aujourd'hui nous sommes le 12 mai 2009
or
2) Aujourd'hui c'est le 12 mai 2009

If refering to a year, you have to use the preposition "EN"

Example: In 2009 = En 2009

If refering to a month, you have to use the preposition "EN"

Example: In January = En Janvier

If refering "in the month of" write "AU MOIS DE"

Example: In the month of January = Au mois de Janvier

How To Write Date

In French, the date is always preceded by the definite article le.
So to write the date:
le + the number + the month

Example: le 12 mai 2009

REMEMBER:
If it is the first of a month, use premier instead of 1.

Example: le premier mai 2009

NOTE:
If the day is also mentioned, you can omit the le.

example: Mardi 12 mai 2009.

Consonants

French consonants are pronounced almost like in English. In French, the consonants at the end of a word are not usually pronounced. EXCEPT for C,F,R L or easy to remember CaReFuL.

The letter "h" is always silent in French.

The letter "r" need to be pronounced with your throat, but make it as gentle and soft as possible.
